Extract taken from magazine “Awake-Television, how does it affect your life?”:
‘If someone offered you a million dollars to give television up for the rest of your life, would you do so? Some years ago 1 in 4 Americans surveyed said that they would not.’
From that quote we read that 25% of Americans a few years ago simply would not give up television for a huge sum of money, and we can be sure that the numbers have gone up in our days, not only in America but all over the world! Television, just how much of a time thief is it?
Recently, a global study showed that, on average, people watch T.V for just over three hours each day. North Americans watch four and a half hours daily while the Japanese top the list with five hours per day. Those hours add up. If we watch four hours daily by the age of 60 we will have spent ten years in front of the screen.
What’s the point to this? you may ask. Well this shows us that as with nearly everthing in life, technology is a double edged sword, on one hand it may be educational and usefull, and on the otherhand it may eat away at time urgently needed for other things e.g. Coursework, work, socializing etc. Should measures be taken to educate younger generations on how to have a balanced healthy lifestyle?
